Germany leading in high-tech jobs in Europe

According to the German IT association BITKOM Germany has the highest number of high-tech jobs in Europe: 1.93 million which is 5.2% of all jobs. While there are a few big high-tech clusters such as in Munich (SW and biotech), Dresden (semiconductors), Nurnberg (medical equipment), overall there are about 130 clusters scattered across Germany, which seems way too many compared with e.g. the US. Relatively, Dresden has the highest number of high-tech jobs with 8.7% but Munich is leading in total numbers (181k). While Dresden is on top in this ranking I would consider them as also the most vulnerable location since with AMD and Infineon two (troubled) companies employ the highest number of high-tech experts directly and indirectly and Dresden’s high-tech jobs depend heavily on these two.
